Part of the 200th anniversary of the Owen-Maclure experiment in New Harmony, Indiana, and in collaboration with the Innovative Communities Conference:
This solo flute recital explores the enduring human search for beauty, belonging, and ideal expression—echoing the visionary spirit of New Harmony Utopian Experiment. Through a program of lyrical fantasies, virtuosic variations, and beloved American song, the flute becomes a singing voice that moves between aspiration and memory, individuality and community.
Works by C.P.E. Bach, Kuhlau, and Boehm reflect the Enlightenment and Romantic ideals of expressive freedom and artistic imagination, while Stephen Foster’s songs of longing and home offer a deeply personal and distinctly American vision of connection and hope. Together, these pieces trace a musical journey that resonates with New Harmony’s legacy as a place where bold ideas and human ideals meet.
