Songs of Home and Memory

  • First United Methodist Church of Vincennes 411 North 4th Street Vincennes, Indiana, 47591 United States (map)

Robert Cart (flute) and Starla Raley (piano) perform Songs of Home and Memory, a program that explores the many ways music connects us to place, identity, and belonging. For flutist Robert Cart, this performance marks a return to his Indiana roots and the memories that first inspired his musical journey. Through the lyrical elegance of Fauré and Poulenc, the rediscovered voice of émigré composer Richard Stöhr, the distinctly American soundscape of Copland, and Valerie Coleman’s celebration of our shared humanity in Fanmi Imèn, the program reflects on the meaning of home, whether remembered, rediscovered, lost, or reimagined. The concert takes place as part of Concerts at First recital series.

Gabriel Fauré – Fantasy for flute and piano

Richard Stöhr – Six Sketches for flute and piano
