“Hope Will Never Be Silent”

- Harvey Milk -

Hope Will Never Be Silent is an ongoing series of recital programs offered worldwide in a variety of formats. At its heart, the series honors the lives and legacies of LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and women composers whose music speaks with profound lyricism, emotional honesty, and bold individuality. Inspired by the words of activist Harvey Milk, the program is both a tribute and a call to listen—to stories too often marginalized, and to music that deserves to be heard.

Presented in response to recent political efforts aimed at silencing and oppressing LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Jewish, and women’s voices, the series affirms the power of art as resistance and visibility. Many performances are designed to benefit charitable organizations that support equality, amplifying the program’s impact beyond the concert hall.

Curated and performed by flutist Robert Cart in collaboration with distinguished guest artists, each recital features works by composers such as Valerie Coleman, Fania Chapiro, Reynaldo Hahn, Francis Poulenc, Aaron Copland, Charles Tomlinson Griffes, Robert Muczynski, Jake Heggie, and others. Pianist Regina DiMedio Marrazza and violinist Phil Kates are among the accomplished musicians appearing with Robert in this powerful series.

From the sensual impressionism of Hahn to the piercing poignancy of Heggie, and from Copland’s spacious lyricism to Muczynski’s rhythmic edge, each program invites listeners into a world shaped by love, vulnerability, and artistic courage. Through expressive flute playing that echoes the human voice, Hope Will Never Be Silent affirms the creative power of LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and women’s voices—and the enduring need for hope.
